Bribe Blue

Three teams. Everybody wants Red or Green. People sit on the team-select screen for minutes rather than take Blue. So for Season 2 the game is paying them: a cash and XP bonus for picking Blue.

Pick a team.

Team balance

  • Blue team bonus: pick Blue and get extra in-game cash and XP, for Season 2. How big the bonus is hasn't been announced.
  • Spawns: one map is being reworked so Blue no longer gets the worse places to start.

Also in the season

  • New gear and vehicles, and rain on every map.
  • The first progression wipe: everyone goes back to level 1.

Known issue: nobody picks Blue

All three teams start equal

On paper Red, Green and Blue are the same. Players still skip Blue from the very first screen.

Weaker camouflage

Blue's colours stand out more than the other two, so players feel easier to spot.

Worse spawn points

Blue started in less favourable places, the thing Season 2 is fixing on one map.

The reputation feeds itself

Experienced players avoid Blue, so Blue ends up with more new players, so Blue loses more, so more people avoid it.

Lobby Balancer

Back to team select

You run the matchmaking. Twenty-four players are coming, three teams of eight. Everybody heads for Red or Green, and once those are full they would rather sit and wait than take Blue. Set the Blue bonus: cash costs you coins and works best on veterans; XP is free, but it mostly pulls in rookies, and a Blue full of rookies gets an even worse name. Fill the lobby before people give up, keep the teams fair, don't spend the whole budget.

Stars: one for starting the match, one for fair teams (team strengths close together), one for nobody leaving and spending no more than half the budget.

For your own games, five-a-side, a board-game night, a LAN: put in the names, give anyone a rough skill from 1 to 10 if you like, and get teams with totals as close as they can be. Nobody gets stuck on Blue for picking last.
